Xavi sends a heartfelt message to the fans after leaving Barcelona

Xavi has thanked the Barcelona fans for their support during a hectic period at the helm of the club.

It was confirmed on Friday that Xavi would not remain in the role beyond this Sunday’s match against Sevilla, after a disagreement with president Joan Laporta finally undid all the progress made when Xavi reversed his initial decision to resign in April.

Taking to social media after the news was announced, Xavi wrote an emotional letter to those who have supported him since he returned to Barça in November 2021.

“Dear fans, my time on the Barça bench will end on Sunday,” he wrote on instagram. “It is never easy to leave the club of your life, but I do it with great pride, after two and a half years at the helm of a dressing room that has been like a second family.

“I want to thank the fans for their support and affection, who have always been by my side and have always shown me the same affection as during my time as a player. Starting Sunday I will be just another culer in the stands, not even now in the Stadium Olympic or in a few months at the Camp Nou because before being a player or coach, I am a Barcelona fan and I only want the best for the club of my life, which will always have me at its disposal.

“I have worked with a group of fantastic players and a spectacular squad. Thanks to all of them we achieved the objectives set, culminating last year with a League and a Super Cup. This season things did not go as we wanted, but we put our heads together and helped to grow a new generation of young La Masia footballers who inspire all Barcelona fans.

“Thank you very much to everyone. To the fans, to the players, to the staff, to the club employees, to the president, to the board of directors, to the sports directors, to the media and to everyone with whom I have shared the path of these two and a half seasons. .

“I wish the best to the club that I carry in my heart. Long live Barça.”

Barcelona wasted no time in finding a replacement and finally reached an agreement with their long-time target, Hansi Flick.

The former Germany boss was keen on the job when Xavi first planned to leave in January and, after confirming he still wanted to make the move, a two-year deal was agreed.
