Iñaki Williams will miss the World Cup qualifiers in Ghana after having glass discovered in his foot

However, he has missed a few games for both club and country of late and has also been ruled out of Athletic Bilbao’s final game of the season against Royo Vallecano on Saturday.

In the pre-match press conference, Valverde revealed to reporters that Williams has been playing with a glass on his foot.

According to what he says, the striker suffered an accident two years ago and a piece of glass pierced his foot after stepping on it by mistake.

Valverde explained that although Williams recovered from the injury, it was recently discovered that part of the glass remained stuck in his foot.

The Athletic Bilbao coach, however, added that the Ghanaian striker has undergone surgery to remove the glass, which has left him unavailable.

“We did a scan on him after the final and found he still had some glass in his foot. When they sewed it the first time, they left the glass in there.” Said Valverde, quoted by Fútbol España.

“Also, it is not a small piece, it measures about 2 cm. It was next to a bone or a tendon, but we had to remove it. The truth is that the doctor and I were laughing because we couldn’t believe it.”

Meanwhile, Williams now faces a race against time to be fit for Ghana’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Mali and CAR.

The Black Stars will travel to Bamako to take on the Eagles on June 6 before taking on CAR four days later at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
