Ramaphosa finds his pen and signs two bills

JOHANNESBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa has found his pen and is wasting no time in using it. He today he signed two bills.

These are the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Bill and the NPA Amendment Bill.

Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, says the implementation of this bill is long overdue.

“Today marks a historic milestone in the country’s relentless pursuit of justice and equality as we gather here to sign the bill of the National Council against Gender Violence and Fermicide. We honor the unwavering participation of all those who have worked tirelessly to achieve this moment,” Dlamini-Zuma said.

Dlamini-Zuma said the bill would first be introduced in Parliament in 2022.

“The journey to this point has required the collaboration of government civil society organizations, the private sector, other social partners and, most importantly, survivors of gender violence. Their voices have guided our policies, inspiring us to fight where justice prevails and the circle of violence is closed.”
