A road accident involving a red Scania Marcopolo bus with registration number GW 9090-18 has reportedly led to multiple deaths and injuries on the Accra to Kumasi highway.

The accident occurred early Friday morning around 4:00 am in Atwemamena, a community between Bunso and Akyem Asafo in the Eastern Region.

The bus, traveling from Kumasi towards Accra, collided with a truck heading in the opposite direction.

Eyewitnesses described the accident as serious and noted that “several passengers, including the bus driver and his companion, lost their lives. I saw a decapitated leg in the destroyed front of the bus. “The victims have been transported to Suhum Government Hospital for emergency care.”

This tragic event is part of a worrying trend in Ghana, where traffic accidents remain alarmingly frequent.

Only in the first quarter of this year, 4,503 traffic accidents were recorded, which caused 829 deaths and 4,955 injuries.

The Orthopedic Association of Ghana (OAG) has called on the government to implement comprehensive trauma care systems and enforce strict road safety measures.

During its fourth Annual General and Scientific Conference in Kwahu on May 16, the OAG emphasized the need for timely and effective treatment for trauma patients, strict enforcement of traffic laws, promotion of helmet and seat belt use. safety, and improvements in road infrastructure to improve safety for all road users.
