Rundu woman arrested for shop scam, two others at large – Crime

A woman (32) from Rundu has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a buyer of $3,500 in cash, a mobile phone, personal documents and a handbag, says Kavango East Acting Regional Commander Eino Nambahu.

His accomplices are still at large, says Nambahu. According to Nambahu, the incident occurred on Monday when the suspect approached the victim inside a store and promised her a discount on his purchases.

The scam involved luring the victim out of the store and switching purses, which allowed the suspect to steal the victim’s belongings, Nambahu says.

“The victim initially hesitated to report the crime due to the illegal nature of the backdoor deal. However, upon encountering the suspect again on May 23, she reported the incident to the police,” says Nambahu.

The police investigation led to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen items at a residence in Hilka Park, Nambahu adds. Nambahu urged the community to avoid backroom deals and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
