Woman accused of ‘stabbing’ 6-year-old boy with pen at daycare

SINGAPORE – A woman was charged on Friday (May 24) with repeatedly “stabbing” a six-year-old boy with a pen at a daycare center, leaving marks on his face and scalp.

The 43-year-old woman was charged with ill-treatment of a child in her care under the Children and Young Persons Act.

The court issued a wide-ranging gag order prohibiting publication of the identity of the victim, the identity of the accused and the location of the incident.

According to the chargesheet, the woman is an Indian citizen and a permanent resident of Singapore.

The boy was in his care at around 3pm on November 16, 2022 at daycare when he allegedly stabbed the boy’s head several times with a pen.

As a result, the child suffered a 1 cm long abrasion on the scalp, a 2 cm long abrasion above the eyebrow ridge, and a 1.5 cm long abrasion above the scalp.

The woman indicated that she would plead guilty.

He was offered bail of S$15,000 and his case will be heard again in June.

If convicted of mistreating a child in her care, she could be sentenced to a prison sentence of up to eight years and a fine of up to S$8,000, or both.
