Two dead and several injured after the collapse of a spa building in Mallorca

Two people have died and up to 14 have been injured after the collapse of a building in a resort in Mallorca.

Emergency services went to the scene of the accident at the Medusa Beach Club in Playa de Palma on Wednesday night.

Local authorities confirmed that two people died in the incident, while many more are feared trapped.

A spokesperson for the regional emergency response coordination center said: “We have activated an emergency response following the collapse of the roof of a two-storey building on Avenida Cartago in Playa de Palma, where people are trapped.

“Firefighters and local police are at the scene.”

In a later update, the spokesperson added: “We can confirm that two people have died in the building collapse in Playa de Palma.

“We can also confirm that between 12 and 14 people have suffered injuries of varying degrees.”

The nationalities of the dead and injured are still unknown.

Playa de Palma is the beach area located to the east of the Majorcan capital and is very popular with tourists.
