Max Verstappen’s father Jos will return to F1 racing for the first time since claiming Red Bull ‘WOULD EXPLODE’ if embarrassed Christian Horner remained team principal, as the Dutchman is seen arriving at the Monaco GP.

  • Jos Verstappen said the team “could be destroyed” if Christian Horner stays
  • Max Verstappen’s father returns to racing for the first time since the big rant
  • It could turn into an uncomfortable and potentially explosive weekend in Monac

Jos Verstappen will return to an F1 race for the first time since telling Mail Sport that Red Bull could be “destroyed” if Christian Horner stayed following the scandal that engulfed the team principal and organisation.

In a development that could prove explosive and awkward this weekend in Monaco, the father of Red Bull world champion driver Max Verstappen will return to the fold and was photographed arriving at the famous circuit on Thursday afternoon.

Horner, who is married to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, was cleared after a lengthy investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior towards a female colleague.

Verstappen Sr. also previously said the situation would “explode” at Red Bull if Horner held on to his job.

In March, he told Mail Sport: “There is tension here as he remains in his position.”

Jos Verstappen is shown arriving in Monaco ahead of this weekend’s Grand Prix.
Verstappen will attend his first race since saying Christian Horner staying in the job could destroy Red Bull.

‘The team is in danger of disintegrating. It can’t continue as it is. It will explode. He’s playing the victim, when he’s the one causing the problems.’

The eyes of the wider world had been focused on the storm surrounding Horner, 50, after sexually suggestive text messages he allegedly sent to a female employee came to public attention in a leaked email.

This leak came 24 hours after an investigation by Red Bull’s parent company in Stuttgart cleared Horner of “coercive behavior” towards the colleague.

sport mail previously revealed that Jos, a former team-mate of Michael Schumacher, had a huge row in Horner’s paddock office after qualifying for the season-opening race in Bahrain.

Verstappen, 51, walked out of the fiery meeting before returning to the room and reluctantly shaking hands.

According to his affiliates, Horner believes Verstappen Sr. has orchestrated a campaign to overthrow him over the past few weeks, implying that the Dutchman even had something to do with the email leak.

Max Verstappen will be desperate to put aside any distractions this weekend

Verstappen denied the allegations, saying: “That wouldn’t make sense.” Why would I do that when Max is doing so well here?

The fallout has been significant and legendary Red Bull car designer Adrian Newey will leave at the end of the season and is expected to join Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next season.

Red Bull has already been beaten twice this season, once by Ferrari and then by McLaren’s Lando Norris in what looks to be a more open race for the championship.
