But the Blues also face competition from Brighton. The Seagulls are also looking for a new boss following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi at the end of the season.

De Zerbi was the early bookmakers’ favorite to take over at Chelsea, but has since lowered his odds. McKenna, along with his newly promoted team-mate Enzo Maresca and Brentford manager Thomas Frank, are among the names said to be of interest to Chelsea.

Maresca is currently at Leicester City, having led them to the Championship title in his first full season as manager in the just-ended campaign. The Italian is Pep Guardiola’s former assistant manager at Manchester City. But like McKenna, he has no Premier League managerial experience.

current favorite

More about Law.

“At different times you will hear that McKenna is the favorite or Maresca is the favorite, but this is because Chelsea have just contacted their agents.

“They gathered information on all 4 candidates and talked to people related to all 4 candidates all at the same time, so it’s very difficult to identify a favorite.”

Chelsea have now begun the process of formal interviews with their managerial candidates, writes the Daily Mail.

Those included are McKenna, Frank, Maresca and the mystery man.

Ipswich are said to be considering alternatives for McKenna (with Rob Edwards mentioned). Leicester have also identified Carlos Corberán as a possible alternative to Maresca.

Steve Cooper is on Brentford’s radar if Frank leaves, but he is keeping his options open.

Coach Enzo Maresca offers update

Marcos Álvarez, Enzo Maresca’s physical trainer at Leicester City, recently denied speculation that the coaching staff could leave the King Power Stadium this summer.

His comments come amid ties with Secilla, as it emerged that Maresca has rejected the option of advancing talks with the club he represented as a player.

“We are focused on Leicester and right now there is no other option,” Alvarez told Canal Sur Radio in Spain last week.

“He loves Sevilla, as the Sevillistas love him because he has been very important in the club’s history. I imagine that their paths will cross (in the future).”

united battle

Law goes on to say that Chelsea are prepared for possible competition from Manchester United and both McKenna and Frank are expected to be on their list if Ten Hag is sacked.

Chelsea are working quickly to avoid a direct battle with the Red Devils.

Manager’s new position

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solekhol says some Chelsea figures believe the new head coach will be “the last piece of the puzzle” to fit into the new structure.

It’s a big claim and many fans have been left completely disappointed so far.

Maresca speaks

talkSPORT’s Alex Crook says Chelsea will ask Leicester for permission to speak to Maresca.

It has been said elsewhere that he would be interested in taking on the role if it were offered.

However, earlier this season he spoke strongly about building a long-term future with the Foxes.

More than £7m is likely to be needed to terminate his contract.

Timeline explained

So, if it is in the coming days, it is now said that Chelsea are confident of having a new manager by the end of next week.

It’s not the “exhaustive process” it was 12 months ago, but it may seem that way to Chelsea fans.

McKenna also in talks

The Guardian reports that McKenna’s representatives are in talks with both Chelsea and Brighton.

The 38-year-old is said to prefer a move to Stamford Bridge at the moment.

Manager’s posture

McKenna, Maresca and Frank would all be interested in taking the Chelsea job if it were offered to them, the Telegraph writes.

It is said that there is no favorite yet, but the sports directors are working quickly to try to arrange an appointment before the beginning of June (next week).

Tuchel last

The Guardian reports that Thomas Tuchel is the favorite for the Manchester United job if Erik ten Hag leaves.

He is not believed to be anywhere near the job at Chelsea.

Pochettino has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The women’s Chelsea also does not have a coach.

However, they have already reached an agreement with Sonia Bompastor and are expected to announce her as Emma Hayes’ successor next week.

amorim theory

It’s a bit long, but some Chelsea fans have speculated that the mystery manager could be Amorim, and there are reasons for his name to remain hidden for now.

Sporting will play a cup final on Sunday and the theory is that they want to keep it a secret until after the game.

Very far? Maybe.

It has been reported that there is a fourth manager on Chelsea’s shortlist alongside McKenna, Maresca and Frank.

Hoeness is considered unlikely at this time along with De Zerbi.

Kieran McKenna’s stance

Ipswich manager Kieran Mckenna has encouraged Chelsea to press ahead with their interest in him, according to the Evening Standard.

The report says he is excited about the job and has “welcomed” being shortlisted for the role at Stamford Bridge.

This adds to BBC reports that the 38-year-old is “likely” to reject any new contract offer from Ipswich. Both he and his assistant are said to feel the time is right to move on.

Four-man shortlist

Sky’s news is backed up by the Telegraph, which claims Chelsea now have a four-man shortlist for the head coach job.

The report names Enzo Maresca, Kieran McKenna and Thomas Frank as three of the names, although there is no mention of who the fourth could be.

It is also added that Chelsea have “lowered” interest in Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeness and Girona coach Michel.

Appointment schedule outlined

Sky Sports News says Chelsea are hoping to name a new head coach by the end of the week, meaning they don’t have much time to make it happen, considering tomorrow is Friday!

They add that Thomas Frank, Enzo Maresca and Kieran McKenna are the leading candidates for the position.

Who would you choose from those three?

Enzo Maresca has already rejected a summer offer

Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca is also emerging as another possible candidate for Chelsea, after the Italian led Leicester City to the Championship title.

It is unknown if he would be interested in leaving, but it seems that it would have to be the right club to convince him to leave Leicester.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Maresca has already rejected the possibility of leaving Leicester for Sevilla, one of the clubs he played for. Maresca is said to want to remain in the Premier League.
