Ato Forson trial: Judgment day has arrived for Godfred Dame – Sammy Gyamfi

The communications officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has indicated that the Attorney General will be responsible for what he considers judicial breaches.

Gyamfi insists that the claims made by the third accused in the ongoing Cassiel Ato Forson trial validate the NDC’s position that Godfred Dame is only trying to imprison the lawmaker.

He said this in joy fm‘s Newsnight on Thursday 23 May 2024.

“Your day of responsibility has arrived, your day of reckoning. Your cup is full, God has exposed your evil deeds that you carry out under the mantle of your office as Attorney General. And it is time for you to face the music. And we They’re saying he’s not above the law,” he said.

This comes after Richard Jakpa, the third defendant in the ambulance purchase trial, claimed that the Attorney General had previously approached him to help build a case against the minority leader and former deputy finance minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

“The attorney general has hired me on several occasions at odd hours to help him file a case against A1 and I have proof of this… If you pressure me, I will open Pandora’s box. “I don’t understand why the attorney general will accuse me of defending A1 when I am here to defend myself,” Jakpa told the court.

“If you push me, I will open Pandora’s box. I have proof of all this,” she added on Thursday, May 23.

The NDC expressed concern over what it sees as a clear case of persecution against Dr Forson, who has been a leading figure in opposing the policies of the current government.

The Attorney General in the new statement insisted that “The Republic has never required or desired the cooperation of any of the accused in the matter, in which it has already managed to establish a prima facie case against all of the accused.”

“Neither the Attorney General nor any official of the Attorney General’s Office has approached any of the accused in order to obtain evidence from them.”

But the NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi will not sit still.

speaking to joy fmEvans Mensah, the Communications Officer reiterated that his party is in possession of incontrovertible evidence proving that the Attorney General has been biased and unfair towards the minority leader throughout the trial, with the aim of imprisoning him at all costs.

“If your hands are clean, you have no bad motives, and you want to communicate with a defendant in court, you know his lawyer, so you go to his lawyer. You do not call the defendant or meet with him under cover of darkness, planning all kinds of things that I’m holding back from publishing before next week’s press conference.”
