Cargo plane lands safely at Christchurch airport after engine failure

A cargo plane has landed safely at Christchurch Airport after an engine failure shortly after take-off.

The plane, bound for Sydney, alerted the air traffic control tower of the failure shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

An airport spokesperson said it had since landed safely.

All three crew members on board were safe and sound, the spokesman said.

The engineers were now working on the plane.

There were no disruptions to any other services, the spokesperson said.

On Friday, a Jetstar plane skidded off the runway while landing at the airport.

The Airbus A320 is believed to have experienced a steering problem.

All passengers disembarked safely and there were no reports of injuries.
