I am afraid that the NPP will use money to manipulate the 2024 elections – Kofi Amoabeng

The former CEO of the defunct UT Bank, Captain Prince Kofi Amoabeng (rtd), has stated that chaos could break out if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) manipulates the 2024 elections.

Amoabeng expressed fears over possible electoral manipulation by the NPP, warning that such actions could lead to unrest in the country.

In an interview on Joy News on May 18, 2024, he highlighted his concerns and cited the PNP’s record and economic mismanagement as key factors behind his apprehension.

“I’m a little scared, but I don’t waste time fearing what’s going to happen in the future. I believe in the present,” he said.

He did not mince his words in his assessment of the PNP’s performance, stating that they had “made a serious mistake and let Ghanaians down.”

However, he also noted that the party possessed significant financial resources, which he implied could be used to influence the electoral process.

“But I am afraid in the sense that I think although it is not difficult to say that the NPP made a grave mistake and let Ghanaians down, they have a lot of money.

“Robbed or whatever, they have a lot and therefore they will use it to try to stay in power.

“That’s where my fear comes in because I think if there is an obvious victory for the NDC and… they can use their money and influence to manipulate and do all kinds of things, things could explode… so we have to pray. “he added.

The 2024 general election is seen as a close race between the NPP led by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and the NDC led by former President John Dramani Mahama.

The NPP has adopted the mantra of “breaking the 8” as it attempts to win a third consecutive term after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ends his term in 2025.

The NDC, through Mahama, who is running for president for the fourth consecutive time, is seeking to return to office after his defeat in 2016.
