Powerball: Lucky Australian makes history by taking home $150 million jackpot

One lucky Australian will hand in his notice tomorrow after winning the entire $150 million Powerball prize.

The South Australian resident has also made history, becoming the country’s biggest lottery winner, taking the baton from a Sydney nurse who pocketed $107 million in 2019.

The numbers needed to win the first division were 4, 6, 8, 18, 28, 29, 34 and 11.

Nine players, including two in WA, also won big, taking home a whopping $276,036 each.

Lotterywest revealed the two Division Two winning tickets were sold at The Good Grocer Karratha IGA and Midland Gate Lottery Kiosk respectively.

Thursday’s victory comes after seven weeks without top division winners. The last time the Powerball offered $150 million was on January 25.

Lott spokeswoman Anna Hobdell said she expected up to half of Australian adults to take part in the draw.

Before Thursday, six division one Powerball winners had pocketed more than $270 million across Australia so far in 2024.
