Semi-finalists decided after exciting second day of CAF African Schools Football Championship final


The semi-finalists for the 2024 CAF African Schools Football Championship continental finals have been officially decided after another action-packed day of the ongoing competition in Zanzibar.

Amaan Stadium is the center of attention in Zanzibar, where numerous African youth football competitions will be held between May 21 and 24, with the CAF Zonal Union champions vying for continental honours.

Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda and Morocco have secured the final four spots in the women’s division of the competition as the race for a place in the finals rages on.

In the men’s section, Tanzania joined the women’s team in the quarter-finals along with Benin, Guinea and Senegal to make up a delightful schedule of matches for day 3 of the tournament on Thursday 23 May.

In the women’s division, Tanzania edged out Congo in the opening match with a 1-0 victory, while South Africa did the same against Gambia in the following tie.

Uganda beat Togo 2-0 in a very entertaining tie, before beating Gambia by the same score in the final match of the day.

South Africa’s narrow 1-0 victory over Gambia, along with a goalless draw against Togo, secured them a place in the next phase of the competition.

In Morocco’s only match of the day, Morocco beat Congo 2-1 to close the qualification for the four teams in the women’s section.

The men’s section saw Tanzania beat Uganda 1-0 in their only match of the day to seal a place in the last four.

Guinea’s 1-0 victory over South Africa and 3-0 against Libya allowed them to qualify.

Benin were the top scorers on the day, with a 4-1 victory over Libya, combined with a narrow 1-0 victory over South Africa to close out what was another exciting round of matches in the tournament.
