Northeastern Ontarians may have already been awakened by the sound of thunder early Wednesday morning. These storms will continue to move across the region and into western Quebec during the morning and afternoon.

Wednesday’s strongest storms will likely move through rural Ontario and into western Quebec.

The main threats from these storms will be tonne-sized hail, heavy rain and strong wind gusts of up to 100 km/h. People could see these conditions last into the evening hours of Wednesday.

As for central and southern Ontario, thunderstorms are expected to develop in the early afternoon. There is a chance that storms could move across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), but they will be more isolated and may contain strong gusts of wind and heavy downpours.

There is a lot of uncertainty about whether storms will develop in the GTA, but if they do, they will be strong. The location of the worst storms depends on when the cold front passes. Faster speed places stronger storms closer or in eastern sections.

While low, there is also a tornado chance in central Ontario and along the Ontario-Quebec border, stretching from Temiskaming Shores, Ontario, to Val-d’Or and Mont Laurier Que.
