Tinubu’s illusory politics hurts APC, says former vice president

A former North West National Vice President of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has accused President Bola Tinubu of engaging in illusory politics that has reduced citizens, party leaders and members to distant observers.

Lukman said the Tinubu government is creating doubts in the minds of Nigerians about the prospect of resolving the country’s challenges with incidents of policy errors and setbacks.

The APC leader, in a statement issued in Abuja, also observed that after one year in office, the President’s mistakes have made the insecurity crisis persist, adding that the problems of inflation, unemployment and poverty are on the rise.

“Politically, the APC has followed the path of being disrespectful to its own rules to such an extent that we have blatantly produced a sitting Governor who is using his immunity to prevent law enforcement officials from assuming their responsibility to investigate the allegations. of corruption against his predecessor. .

“The biggest disappointment is the disturbing reality that the political mercenaries who fought against the election of President Asiwaju Tinubu during the 2023 elections are now his strongest allies with free access and the party loyalists who campaigned and supported him have been has denied access and are considered in contempt.

“The other reality is whether the tenure of President Asiwaju Tinubu will continue to advance along the path of an illusory politics based on which Nigerians, including leaders and members of the APC, will remain distant observers, unable to influence the decisions and directions of the government of President Asiwaju Tinubu. ,” he said.

Lukman added that Tinubu’s body language is disrespectful and derogatory to many leaders and members of the party, especially those who are outspoken and critical of his decisions.

The former Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum said that as long as this remains the case, the prospects of APC returning to its founding vision and delivering progressive governance will be weak.

“The failure to return APC to its founding vision and the failure to bring about progressive governance could mean the failure to positively seize the opportunity that democracy presents. This could also mean that the crisis of insecurity, unemployment, poverty, etc. He could stay with us and get worse.

“Given all these danger signs, it is important that APC leaders and members who are truly committed to the development of Nigerian democracy based on progressive principles take up the challenge of organizing to reverse the current decline towards illusory politics in the country.

“Just as Nigerians were able to confront the military rulers and PDP leaders when they trampled on the rights and freedoms of citizens, if the APC leaders follow the same path, it is up to all true progressives and patriots to organize and stop any further drift. towards illusory politics.

“However, the first thing is to communicate the message in unequivocal terms that President Asiwaju Tinubu must be sincere and truly demonstrate that he is both a democrat and a progressive politician, by initiating deeper political reforms of both the APC and all governments controlled by the APC at all levels.

“If President Asiwaju Tinubu is indeed a democrat and a progressive politician, the current anarchic disposition of the APC leaders must be put to an end. Furthermore, the absent-minded behavior of President Asiwaju Tinubu, who despises APC leaders and members, must change,” he added.
