Atik Mohammed questions Akufo-Addo’s appointment of Nana Bediatuo as special ambassador

Former Secretary-General of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent appointment of his Executive Secretary, Nana Bediatuo Asante, as Special Ambassador.

Atik questioned both the timing and necessity of the appointment, calling it insensitive to the concerns of the Ghanaian population.

He expressed dismay at the timing of the appointment before the December election.

“What could prompt the president to name his executive secretary as a special ambassador just six months before the election?” he asked.

Atik further argued that the president’s actions indicate a lack of responsiveness to the needs of Ghanaians.

“If I really listened to people, I wouldn’t have taken this step. It seems to me that the president is showing insensitivity towards Ghanaians. What pressing global issues require the appointment of a special ambassador so close to the election? -she asked.

The appointment of Nana Bediatuo Asante was announced during a ceremony at Jubilee House on Monday, June 24, 2024.

He has served as Executive Secretary to President Akufo-Addo since 2017.
