Jay Slater’s loved ones are ‘absolutely heartbroken’ by ‘horrible lies’ and set the record straight

As the search for Jay Slater dragged on for another day on Tuesday, his friends and family were once again faced with another series of abusive online messages from cruel trolls who are compounding their anguish over the missing teenager.

Jay, 19, from Lancashire, has been missing since June 17, when he disappeared in the mountains north-west of Tenerife. He had stayed in an Airbnb rental the night before he disappeared after “walking alone” in a remote part of the island.

So far, rescue efforts to bring Jay home have involved members of the Civil Guard, fire crews and mountain rescue teams deployed in the vast and “treacherous” Teno Rural Park, while friends and family Jay’s have also traveled to the island to help with the search. Meanwhile, Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan, revealed that she had “barely slept” and that she was “desperate with worry”.

However, despite the anguish surrounding Jay’s absence, friends and family of the bricklayer’s apprentice have also been forced to confront countless false accusations on social media, ranging from claims that they were “partying in ships” to false reports that Jay’s body had been found.

“Secondly, when I went to Turkey in April, someone stole this clip from me and said I’m in Tenerife partying. I’m here looking for my son’s best friend who isn’t partying if anyone saw this!!! !!!” She then concluded the post with “Absolutely heartbroken. It was a previous vacation,” before sharing a broken heart emoji.
