Government destroys £1.4bn of PPE bought from single company

Yesterday it was claimed the government destroyed or canceled £1.4bn of PPE bought during the pandemic from a couple who now own a yacht and a £30m Caribbean villa.

At least 1.57 billion items of PPE, provided by Full Support Healthcare, an NHS supplier in Northamptonshire, will never be used, despite being manufactured to appropriate standards.

The waste, which the BBC said was equivalent to £1.4bn worth of unused PPE from Full Support Healthcare, included 749 million items already burned or destroyed.

It also included a further 825 million items classified as overstock “where disposal and recycling are possible outcomes”.

The £1.4bn figure was questioned last night by the Department of Health and Social Care.
