MZANSI was moved when they saw actress Phindile Gwala among the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) members who were sworn in at Parliament on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Many were surprised because the actress had not been seen campaigning for MK or in any of the party structures. Some concluded that she was going to be a member of Parliament for the MK party and even posted about it on social media.

However, Phindile has cleared up the confusion.

He issued a statement saying he was at the swearing-in ceremony, not as a member of the MK party, but as a gesture of support for his spiritual mother and friend, Bishop Nokwethemba Mtshweni, who is a member of the MK party.

The statement read: “We would like to make a clarification on the recent speculations and assumptions. Actress Phindile Gwala accompanied MK Party member and close friend and spiritual mother Bishop Nokwethemba to the swearing-in ceremony as a gesture of support. However, We have noticed that some people have mistakenly interpreted this as his own inauguration as a Member of Parliament.

“We would like to categorically state that Phindile Gwala was not a person who took oath at the ceremony. While we appreciate the interest and support, we kindly request that this clarification be noted to avoid further misunderstandings. Phindile Gwala remains grateful for the continued support support and interest in his efforts as he hopes to continue his work in the entertainment industry.”

The statement was issued by Phindile’s publicity team through Kwathole Conexion.

MK party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela was not available for comment as he was busy at the swearing-in ceremony.
