MATCH REPORT: Benin 0-2 Ghana – High-flying Black Stars topple Benin to top Group A

The national U-17 team, the Black Starlets, edged out Benin in their final group stage match of the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship.

Playmaker Mark Kagawa put the Black Starlets ahead as they beat Benin 2-0 to top Group A.

After Benin appeared to defeat the Black Starlets in the opening minutes of the match, Mark Kagawa set the stadium on fire with a brilliant loop to break the deadlock in the 20th minute.

Two minutes after Kagawa put Ghana ahead, Theophilus Ayamga thrilled the fans with a beautiful mat shot off a rebound.

Benin almost reduced the score, but goalkeeper Michael Armah was up to the task and stretched to his elastic limit to stop what could have been a wonderful shot.

Ghana went into half-time with a 2-0 lead and promised to score more after the break.

The Black Starlets won several free kicks in the second half, but failed to use them wisely, leaving fans gasping for more goals.

While Benin tried to reduce the score, the fast Black Starlets kept up the pressure until the final minutes of the match.

Ghana will now face the second-placed team in Group B after their group matches on Wednesday.
